Baseball cards from my youth are hilarious

I found some of my old baseball cards, and as it turns out, they’re absurdly funny. Look at these freaks! The best part is that someone decided that each of these was the best photo of this player that particular year. I haven’t looked at any modern baseball cards, but I have to imagine they aren’t still this ridiculous.

I love Mystery Science Theater so much. It was a huge part of my childhood. At age 12, when this episode aired, I was a member of the MST3K fan club and got all their cool promotional materials, like the two VHS tapes containing all their music videos (of which this was one) and a Crow t-shirt that said, “Bite Me.”

The phrase of this solo that begins at 2:05 always completely kills me. I learned how to play a disturbing amount of this solo on guitar when I was in middle school and can still hum along to way too much of it.

Also, as a once-dedicated Grateful Dead listener, think the lyrics to this song are the most accurate and concise parody of their lyrics I’ve ever heard:

Been ridin’ on that cosmic freight train, feelin’ bad

God knows why I felt it necessary to record this HORRENDOUS cover of “Radar Love” by Golden Earring. The “drum solo” is a complete shit tsunami. I usually don’t suck quite this hard at the drums, but I basically didn’t have the energy/interest to make this song anywhere near perfect. I was in my PJs for christ’s sake. My guitar also songs very tinny and weird, which I didn’t realize until I was mixing it.

It was a fun Sunday morning activity, at least.

Craft Spells is another band I’ve been playing to death since discovering them in the hottest haze of last summer — that span of a few days when it was so impossibly hot that I actually wondered if I could get a first degree burn just by sitting in my living room. Craft Spells was there to keep me cool. Every time I listen to this band, especially this incredible song, I feel like I should be wearing Vuarnets.

Wild Nothing is an awesome band. Hanna bought their great LP Gemini, the Cloudbusting 7” and the Golden Haze EP (my favorite) a while back and we’ve spent the last year listening to them all the time. “Nowhere” is the new single from their (his, I guess) upcoming new album, and it’s just great.
